VITAL IRON – IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IRON AND IRON?

Even our grandparents already knew there is a tight connection between the iron supply of the body and the composition of our blood.

DETAILS

That is why we were often told in our childhood to put a rusty nail in an apply and then eat the apple – supplementing the elementary iron this way.

Although the method above can not be suggested for the iron supplementation, there is a physiological basis of the grandparents’ advise: iron plays a key role in building up erythroblasts.

The erythroblast is the wonderful molecule that is able to bind the oxygen in the lunges – and it delivers it to all cells of the body, from the tip to toes. At the place of destination it passes down the oxygen and takes the carbon-dioxide originating from the breath of the cells and delivers it back to the lunges, making us able to breath out the carbon-dioxide.

In the products used in the fight against iron-deficiency iron can be present in bivalent or trivalent form. Iron compounds used in most food supplements belong to bivalent iron salts. FERROTAMIN® IRON (III) COMPLEX is the first among iron containing food supplements that contains iron in trivalent form, in iron (III) – pyrophosphate.

Why is this important for you?

While the presence of iron ions in bivalent form can enhance the unwilled formation of free radicals, this process is not characteristic for iron ions in trivalent form because of their more stable structure. For the unpleasant side effects of products with iron in bivalent form (e.g. stomach-ache, nausea, retching) mostly the presence of free radicals are responsible. In case of active ingredients in trivalent form fewer side effects are expected, which is important also because for an effective iron supplementation it is inevitable to use the products for a long period of time, i.e. for some months.

SENSITIVE BALANCE

Appr. 18% of the total iron in our body can be found in the iron stores (liver, lienal, bone marrow).

DETAILS

If we can not provide the recommended 15 mg iron intake with our nutrition, then we will slowly but surely step on the way towards iron-deficient anaemia. The negative effects of the deficient status already prevail in our body when no symptoms can be experienced yet!

In case of iron deficiency first our iron stores get empty (1st phase). This is no iron-deficient anaemia yet, but the iron deficiency can be manifested by clinical parameters. This status is generally without any symptoms, but if we already take care of the appropriate iron supplementation, we can avoid the latter treatment with medicines.

The ice peak is the status when the number of erythroblasts in our blood also decreases: this is the phase of iron-deficient anaemia.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO START IRON SUPPLEMENTATION ON TIME, BEFORE THE APPEARANCE OF SYMPTOMS! DO NOT WAIT UNTIL OUR IRON STORES GET EMPTY!!!

TOO MUCH FROM GOOD… WHY FOOD SUPPLEMENT?

Although iron is an essential trace element, it is also a heavy metal and as such it is a mineral that can be OVERDOSED.

DETAILS

Too much iron in the body can damage the heart, the joints, the liver and the pancreas.

Mostly children are affected by toxication cases, when they take the medicines of their parents by mistake. IT IS OF HIGH PRIORITY TO KEEP MEDICINES AND FOOD SUPPLEMENTS THAT CONTAIN IRON IN SUCH PLACE THAT CHILDREN CAN NOT REACH THEM EVEN BY CHANCE!!!

Taking the toxic characteristics of iron into consideration, there is a legal regulation about the maximum quantity of iron that can be used in food supplements. According to the current regulation it is 45 mg/day. Only medicines can contain more iron than this quantity, which are used under medical supervision for the treatment of anaemia. See more HERE!

FERROTAMIN® compared to the food supplements available on the market contains iron in high dosage that can be used safely also in the long run (28 mg/chewing tablet).

IRON DEFICIENCY IN THE BODY

Iron plays a role primarily in the build-up of erythroblasts in our body.

DETAILS

As a consequence of this, in the lack of iron there is disorder in haematogenesis that leads to anaemia.

If there is not enough erythroblast in our body, the delivery of oxygen stalls. As we feel sleepy and tired in an airless, deoxygenated room, and we start to get a headache, we can experience the same symptoms in case of iron deficiency. Our physical and mental performance decreases, we feel tired and blue all the time. We miss energy and drive… The most common reason of this status known by many of us is iron deficiency.

Tiredness is the most know symptom of iron-deficient anaemia, but there are many other symptoms that refer to the deficient status. Such symptoms can be:

  • hair loss
  • nail problems
  • paleness
  • swollen, aching tongue
  • restless legs syndrome
  • feeling cold all the time
  • susceptibility to infections and other illnesses

STRONG WOMEN

PREGNANCY, BREASTFEEDING

Being pregnant is a beautiful time in women’s life: it is not an illness, but a different kind of “status”. The operation and the nutrient demand of the body changes in many ways. This wonderful and natural process modifies the average iron intake demand, too.

From the second trimester the iron demand grows extremely. OVER the general daily need of 15 mg iron intake for women in reproductive age, the additional daily quantity of 5-10 mg iron is needed for the body of the mother and the baby.

During breastfeeding we can count with an increased iron demand: we have to provide our body 20 mg elemental iron.

According to INACG (International Nutritional Anaemia Consultative Group), the recommended intake for pregnant women is 60 mg elemental iron and 400 mcg folic acid.

2 PCS OF FERROTAMIN® IRON (III) COMPLEX CHEWING TABLETS PROVIDE 96.6 % OF DAILY ELEMENTAL IRON DEMAND AND 100% OF DAILY FOLIC ACID DEMAND ACCORDING TO THE RECOMMENDATION OF INAGG!

THE HEALTHY WOMAN – PERIOD AND IRON DEFICIENCY

The most common reason of anaemia is iron deficiency that evolves in most cases because of blood loss. That is why proper iron supplementation is important for every healthy woman who menstruates regularly.

WHICH QUANTITY OF IRON IS NEEDED FOR A HEALTHY WOMAN DURING PERIODS?

LET’S COUNT TOGETHER!

The blood loss during periods is 30-40 ml on an average. With each ml of blood about 0.4-0.5 mg iron is emptied from our body, which means 12-20 mg iron loss in a single period – above the daily demand!

In case of heavy or long-continued periods (lasting for more than 7 days), the blood loss can be even doubled, so the iron emptied from our body can be even 24-40 mg. (Without periods the daily iron loss is 1-2 mg.)

The extraordinary demand for iron intake during periods exceeds the daily nutrient reference value applied currently, which is determined in 14 mg – both for men and women.

DO NOT WAIT UNTIL YOUR IRON STORES GET EMPTY! START IRON SUPPLEMENTATION ON TIME! TEST THE STATUS OF YOU IRON STORES HERE!

MENOPAUSE

As time passes there will be a time when women do not have to count with the significant iron loss due to periods, pregnancy or breastfeeding any more: this time the daily iron intake demand will decrease to 10-12 mg.

DESPITE OF THE DECREASING DEMANDS THE NUMBER OF WOMEN SUFFERING FROM IRON-DEFICIENT ANAEMIA DURING MENOPAUSE IS SIGNIFICANT! In older age the reason of iron deficiency is the inappropriate nutrition. According to results of representative studies about nutrition habits, from the diet of older women the needed quantity of iron, vitamin B12 and folic acid is missing.

In older age we have to count with the fact that the efficiency of digestion decreases: the absorption of nutrients and their utilisation inside the body worsen, which increases the risk of iron-deficient anaemia further.

IRON DEFICIENCY CAN EVOLVE IN ANY AGE! PREVENT SERIOUS ANAEMIA WITH KEEPING YOUR IRON STORES AT APPROPRIATE LEVEL CONTINUOUSLY!

HEAVY PERIODS – WHAT WE DO NOT TALK ABOUT…

For most women periods mean a natural process belonging to everyday life. At the same time from 10 women in fertile age even 4 can suffer regularly from too heavy periods. Although having periods is not an illness, heavy periods mean a difficult challenge for the affected women that significantly influences their quality of life.

But what can be regarded as a heavy period? Upon the definition loosing 80 ml or more blood in one period. This approach can be used mostly in clinical studies. In practice heavy periods mean the length of at least 7 days or if the change of sanitary pads or tampons is needed after one hour. It can be a symptom if we can’t sleep the night away. It refers to a heavy period, if we have to limit our daily activities because of the period.

DID YOU KNOW?

The number of women suffering from heavy periods is not known, as women do not talk about the problem and rarely consult their doctor. They are the victims, who suffer from symptoms for long years, although THERE IS A SOLUTION for the treatment of physical and mood problems originating from heavy periods.

Do you also suffer from heavy periods? Are you affected in the evolution of iron deficiency? MAKE A TEST HERE!

To identify the reasons of your heavy periods, please consult your doctor! To fight against the iron deficiency originating in the excessive blood loss, please use FERROTAMIN® IRON (III) COMPLEX CHEWING TABLETS!

IRON AND LIFESTYLE

DIETS

The basis of the fight against iron-deficient anaemia is the proper diet which is rich in iron.

DETAILS

Phytogenic and zoogenic foods both can contain iron, but the ABSORPTION AND UTILISATION OF ZOOGENIC IRON – FROM MEAT AND GUTS – IS MUCH BETTER!

The principle of dietary treatment of iron-deficient anaemia is that all main meals should contain zoogenic iron source (the best is liver, but its consumption is recommended only once a week) and vitamin C that helps the absorption of iron (for example green pepper, fresh screwed orange juice).

In case of vegetarian and vegan nutrition the body adapts itself to the supply: the utilisation of the phytogenic iron gets better. But the high fibre content of plant-based diets decreases the utilisation of iron. Not well planned, drastic and long-term slimming diets may lead also to nutrient deficit.

Vegetarian and vegan nutrition and also not appropriate slimming diets increase the chance of evolvement of iron-deficient anaemia.

FERROTAMIN® IRON (III) COMPLEX CHEWING TABLETS IS A VEGAN PRODUCT, SO IT IS IDEAL FOR THE AUXILIARY IRON SUPPLEMENTATION OF PEOPLE FOLLOWING VEGETARIAN OR VEGAN DIETS!

SPORTS

Further to a balanced diet doing sports regularly is a key element for staying healthy.

DETAILS

At the same time the iron demand of the body increases due to the active sport activity!

During sports our circulation increases, as our muscles need more oxygen because of the increased physical activity. To deliver more oxygen, more erythoblasts are needed, and for the formation of more erythoblasts even more iron is needed. This on its own can cause problems, but the case is even more difficult if the sportsman tries to cover his increased protein demand by protein powders instead of consuming meats and guts. Although these powders provide enough protein for the body, they generally do not contain iron and vitamin C needed for the absorption of iron, or vitamins and minerals (for example folic acid) needed for the haematogenesis, so these microelements have to be supplemented in another way.

FOR THE SUPPORT OF YOUR INCREASED ERYTHOBLAST FORMATION CHOOSE FERROTAMIN® IRON (III) COMPLEX CHEWING TABLETS THAT HAS 5 INGREDIENTS FURTHER TO IRON THAT HELP THE APPROPRIATE HEMATOPOIESIS!

PREPONDERANCE AND LACK OF NUTRITION

Iron-deficient anaemia can be 30% more common by people suffering from preponderance.

DETAILS

The presence of extra kilograms is generally combined with not appropriate nutrition: there are many foods in the diet with high energy content that are poor in vitamins and minerals (including iron). So there are many “empty calories” that provide energy for us, but do not provide fibres, trace elements and vitamins.

Such a diet results in a paradox: although people fighting with weight problems seem to have no lack in anything, as they are “well fed”, in the meantime the demand of their body for micronutritions grow above the average level.

At the same time preponderance causes mild but permanent inflammation in the body that decreases the utilisation of iron and with this the needed daily intake is increased.

TO COVER YOUR INCREASED IRON INTAKE DEMAND PLEASE USE FERROTAMIN® IRON (III) COMPLEX CHEWING TABLETS! GET MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE PRODUCT HERE!

IRON AND ABSORPTION DISORDERS

Iron-deficiency is always a consequence of a status, it is never a sole illness.

DETAILS

Ulcers, inflammations and bleedings in the stomach and gut system can be often caused by bacterium (Helicobacter pylori), so in case of permanent iron-deficiency we should be examined if this pathogen is present in our body.

The more frequently diagnosed celiac disease and different inflammatory gut illnesses (Crohn syndrome, Colitis ulcerosa) often lead to iron-deficient anaemia because of the deterioration of absorption and the inflammation of the gut system.

IN CASE OF ILLNESSES OF THE STOMACH AND THE GUT SYSTEM IT IS REASONABLE TO CHECK THE IRON STORES AND START THE IRON SUPPLEMENTATION IF NEEDED!

WHAT ABOUT

IRON STORE?

THE STATUS OF YOUR

LET’S TEST IT!

WHAT ARE IRON STORES AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO FILL THEM?

Iron is present in our body in three forms: “storage iron” in the iron stores, “transport iron” in our blood circulating bound to delivery molecules and “functional iron” with certain tasks.

Iron-deficient anaemia is not a status appearing from a day to another, before the illness there is iron-deficiency in the body – but without anaemia.

In an ideal case the iron stores are filled with iron and our body does not seek anything (see normal status on the graph).

If the intake or the utilisation of iron is not appropriate, these stores get empty gradually. FIRST only the quantity of iron delivered in blood decreases. IN THIS PHASE THE CREATION OF ERYTHROBLASTS IS STILL SMOOTH, but iron-deficiency can be recognised through lab parameters. Depending on the degree of the iron-deficiency, the symptoms of iron-deficient anaemia do not appear or only mildly, and they are not typical (see prelatent and latent iron-deficiency on the graph).

If iron supplementation still does not happen, and even the quantity of iron delivered in blood decreases, then we face the illness named IRON-DEFICIENT ANAEMIA. At this stage already the creation of erythroblasts has disorder (see manifested iron-deficiency on the graph).

FOR THE PREVENTION OF THE MANIFESTED IRON-DEFICIENCY USE FERROTAMIN® IRON (III) COMPLEX!
